Monrovia, September 16, 2018: Local Government officials of the 15 Counties are expected to benefit from a 3-day intensive Local Governance Orientation.

The orientation and training  which covers appointed of of the MIA's central office is organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in partnership with the Carter center (TCC).

According to Minister Varney Sirleaf, the training is meant for recently appointed local government workers including Ministry of Internal Affairs’ central appointees to properly understand functions of their respective offices as well as their roles in the governance process of the state in line with the vision of President George Manneh Weah.

“This gathering is very important, because it will enhance effectiveness and efficiency for our appointees in various posts whether at the Central office or in the Counties and ensure the Pro-poor Agenda is achieved at the local government level” Minister Sirleaf reiterated.

The training which will begin on Monday September 17, 2018 in Gompa City, Nimba County will bring experts from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning MFDP, the Governance Commission GC, Public Procurement and Concession Commission (PPCC), Civil Service Agency CSA and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to make Presentations on topics including, understanding and compliance with the PFM law, PPCC regulations, civil service regulations on hiring and firing, Decentralization, communal farming etc. A release from the Internal Affairs Ministry disclosed that the Ministry will also work with the County Superintendents to come up with a mechanism for the resolution of the many boundary disputes in the Country.

The release said during the Gompa event, all counties are expected to make a full report of all boundary issues and a mechanism will be determined during a Brainstorming session on resolutions of all boundary issues around the country.

Participants at the training will include All County Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents for Development, and Assistant Superintendents for Fiscal Affairs. Others are: all County Inspectors, all County service center Coordinators, and two traditional Chiefs from each county.
