Liberia's Internal Affairs Minister Honorable Varney A. Sirleaf is commending MRU countries for the level cooperation in peace consolidation in the subregion.
MRU is the Mano River Union, which comprises Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Cote Dl'voire.
 
Minister Sirleaf spoke Wednesday at the close of a Joint Sub-regional Action Plan meeting of the Mano River Union and UNDP held in Monrovia from February 17-19, 2020.
 
He renewed President Weah's commitment towards efforts aimed at keeping the region peaceful and safe against all odds.
"Keeping the peace is cardinal to stability within the sub-region, and we are fully committed to that". Minister Sirleaf emphasized.
 
He stressed the need for a close eye on up-coming elections in Guinea and Ivory Coast which is key to peace and security within the Mano River Union Basin.
Minister Sirleaf disclosed that in the spirit of unity, especialmly along the border, Liberia will this year host a conference on border peace, trade and investment, particularly in agriculture, women and youth development among for the MRU subregion.
 
"Originally planned between Liberia and Cote Dl'voire, the Joint Council of Chiefs and Elders Meeting, JCCEM is expected to bring key stakeholders of the rest of MRU basin". He added.
 
Minister Sirleaf is meanwhile calling for financial support and logistics to actualize the plan.
