
NRF Donates Road Maintenance Tools to Ministry of Internal Affairs for Nimba County
Gompa City, Nimba County: The National Road Fund (NRF) has donated a consignment of road maintenance tools and equipment to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for use by Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in Nimba County. The gesture forms part of the NRF’s ongoing nationwide initiative to strengthen community-led road maintenance and roadside brushing across Liberia.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Internal Affairs during the presentation, Mr. Orondo F. Armah, Assistant Minister for Technical Services, commended the strong partnership between the NRF and the Ministry. He noted that the donation demonstrates the government’s commitment to empowering local communities to take ownership of rural infrastructure development.
“The Ministry appreciates the continued collaboration with the National Road Fund, which has ensured that communities are equipped with the necessary tools to maintain feeder and rural roads,” Armah said. “This support will go a long way in improving road connectivity and boosting economic activities in Nimba County.”
The donated items included 50 cutlasses, 50 rakes, 30 wheelbarrows, 53 safety boots, 50 gloves, 53 safety vests, 10 road signs, 2 motorbikes, and 1 signboard.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Nimba County Superintendent, Mr. Peter S. Karngbaye, County Development Officer, expressed gratitude to the National Road Fund and the Ministry of Internal Affairs for their unwavering support to community development initiatives. He described the donation as “timely and essential in improving accessibility and easing travel challenges faced by residents in rural communities.”
Also making remarks on behalf of the National Road Fund, Mr. John H. Towpath, Jr., Chief Administrative Officer, reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to decentralizing road maintenance efforts through the CBOs Program. He emphasized that empowering communities with the right tools and resources will enhance sustainability and ensure year-round maintenance of feeder roads nationwide.
The Nimba County donation marks another milestone in the NRF’s series of interventions aimed at supporting the Ministry of Internal Affairs in promoting inclusive, community-driven infrastructure development across Liberia.
