Assistant Minister Orando Armah, alongside UNDP Liberia Resident Representative, Aliou Dia, has embarked on a week-long mission to Lofa, Bong, and Nimba Counties. The purpose of this visit is to assess completed and ongoing projects supported by UNDP, engage with local stakeholders and identify key challenges and opportunities for further development interventions.

Upon arriving in Lofa County on Monday, February 17, 2025, Mr. Dia held fruitful discussions with the local government, led by Superintendent Lavela Massaquoi. The dialogue centered around strategies for transforming the County Development Agenda into a viable investment plan, emphasizing the need for sustainable development initiatives that align with local priorities.

During their discussions, Mr. Dia and Superintendent Massaquoi highlighted several critical areas for development Recognizing the vital role that women and youth play in community development, both leaders underscored the importance of creating programs that empower these groups economically and socially. The need for enhanced security measures along borders was discussed, with a focus on fostering peace and stability in the region.

Strengthening legal frameworks and ensuring access to justice for all citizens were identified as key components for promoting good governance.

The team emphasized the necessity of building the capacity of county leadership and local institutions to effectively manage resources and implement development projects. Addressing logistical challenges faced by local governments was deemed essential for improving service delivery. Establishing robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms was recognized as crucial for assessing the impact of development initiatives and ensuring accountability. The team acknowledged the urgent need to address climate change challenges affecting the county and discussed potential strategies for resilience and adaptation.

In addition to the discussions, Mr. Dia and his team toured several key facilities, including the County Service Centre, Tellewoyan Hospital, and the stalled construction site of the county city hall. These visits provided valuable insights into the current state of infrastructure and services in Lofa County.

The mission aims to reinforce partnerships with the Government of Liberia and local communities, ensuring that development efforts are aligned with the needs and aspirations of the people of Lofa, Bong, and Nimba Counties.

As the team continues its journey through the three counties, further engagements with local stakeholders will be conducted to foster collaboration and identify actionable solutions for sustainable development.
