In Build-up to Decentralization, President Sirleaf Donates Vehicles to the Counties
President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has donated eleven brand new Toyota Hilux pick-ups to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The vehicles, to be used by County Administration, are part of the capacity building for the Decentralization and Local Governance Program, implementation which is being led by the Ministry.
Presenting the vehicles to Minister Blamoh Nelson, Friday in Monrovia, Deputy Internal Affairs Minister for Administration, Hon. Varney Sirleaf, said the President had donated the vehicles in keeping with her support for the National Decentralization exercise to enhance productivity throughout the Country.
Minister Nelson made a symbolic presentation of keys to four County Superintendents present, including Milton Teahjay of Sinoe, Madam Elizabeth Dempster of Grand Kru, John Buway of Margibi and Imam M. Passawe of Grand Cape Mount.
Minister Nelson emphasized that the President’s donation signifies her strong desire to see government fully decentralized. He admonished the Superintendents to take very good care of the vehicles to ensure they are utilized to their full potential.
Speaking on behalf of the Superintendents, Milton Teahjay, Chairman of the Superintendents’ Council, thanked President Sirleaf for the gesture.
Superintendent Teahjay used the occasion to reaffirm the Superintendents’ commitment to the decentralization program which will eventually lead to election of County Superintendents.
The eleven vehicles are an addition to four initially presented to the Counties of Nimba, Grand Gedeh, River Gee and Maryland, by the UNHCR late last year.
