Former Minister Nelson calls for Violence free Advocacy, wants constructive engagement of Liberian students

Former Internal Affairs Minister Blamoh Nelson has called on Liberian youths to constructively engage their leaders in their advocacy for social and other benefits.

According to Minister Nelson, constructive advocacy through dialogue is the best approach to solving problems in post-war Liberia.

He warned youths, meanly students against violent means of solving problems, saying, violence has never and will never solve problems in the Country.

The Internal Affairs was speaking Monday when he met with University Students hailing from River Gee County at his office in Monrovia.

The students had gone to the Ministry in demand of tuition, which according to them, have not been paid by their county Superintendent and Legislative Caucus in line with County development Funds of the County.

The Students, under the banner, River Gee University Students Union said meeting with the Minister became necessary after all efforts to prevail on the County authority to settle their tuition at the various Universities reportedly failed.
The head of the Student Union, Emmanuel Swen told the Minister, that many students hailing from the county risk not obtaining university education, due to their indebtedness in tune of nearly sixty thousand United States Dollars.
Mr. Swen said the meeting was intended to appeal for Minister Nelson’s prompt intervention to their plight.

In response, Minister Nelson lauded the students for their peaceful engagement and assured he will work with the county authority to settle the tuition problem.
The Internal Affairs has meanwhile instructed the Ministry’s Monitoring and Evaluation Director to work with the Student leadership to produce a full list of the affected students to begin the process.
