Internal Affairs announces National Urban Forum, as the Ministry holds Urban Roundtable with partners…

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced a National Urban Forum for Liberia to be held in June, this year.
The Forum will bring together all county superintendents, city mayors, lawmakers; leaders of key civil Society institutions and other organizations whose programs focus issues relating to urban development.
The UN-HABITAT, The Carter Center, German Agro action and other international partners will participate in the forum.

Internal Affairs Minister, Hon. Blamoh Nelson, told a Round-Table meeting Tuesday, May 07, 2013, that the National Urban Forum is one of the many activities intended to address the complications of governance decentralization.

He disclosed that the Forum is expected to produce a National Urban Policy Document as framework to guide the orderly growth of urban localities in Liberia.

Minister Nelson said the Forum will also produce a Resolution that will affirm a consensus on the reduction of multiplicity of local government administrative structures.

He said the problem of jurisdictional overlap of those structures will then be addressed by the locality boundary validation and harmonization exercise.

The Internal Affairs Minister spoke Tuesday, at an Urban Round-Table with stakeholders to discuss program and formalities for the holding of the Urban Forum.

The Urban Round-Table followed a nationwide municipal management assessment mission held in March and a retreat for City Mayors held recently.

The Ministry is striving to develop an Urban Development Policy which has been lacking since the founding of the nation.
