Min Nelson calls for capacity building as UN Technical Team visits MIA
In the wake of the UNMIL draw down plan, Internal Affairs Minister Hon. Blamoh Nelson has called for genuine and sustained support of capacity building for Liberia’s socio-economic development.
He said capacity building is a key component of government’s Decentralization plan which is being spearheaded by the Internal Affairs Ministry.
Minister Nelson also named other components as rule of law which ensures dispensation of justice and reconciliation at the grass root level, all of which will build mutual trust amongst Liberians and improve peace and security.
The Internal Ministry boss made the statement Tuesday at the meeting with a high power technical team from the United Nations, which is in the country to conduct an assessment on Liberia’s preparedness in the wake of UNMIL departure.
According to him, the ministry has designed several programs that will enhance a decentralized government enabling the people to feel the impact of governance.
Speaking earlier, the head of the twenty-member delegation Edmond Mulet assured that the drawdown will involve processes that require enough time to conclude.
Mr. Mulet noted that discussions being held by his team will better inform the UN Security Council as to what determination to make on the drawdown which will greatly impart the country’s future.
Mr. Mulet who is also UN Assistant Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations praised the country for a peaceful electoral process which was largely managed by Liberians themselves.
