
Minister Dukuly Preaches a proposal for MRU Trust Fund
The Special Representative of the President of ECOWAS in Liberia, Ambassador Tunde Ajisomo, has called for cooperation and collaboration between Liberia and the other members of the Mano River Union.
ECOWAS is the Economic Community of West African States.
AmbassadorAjisomo said ECOWAS is considering sponsoring a proposal for the construction of fully equipped health posts at Liberia’s border communities, which according him, will create a sense belonging to residents of the bordering communities.
He said ECOWAS will work with its members to provide assistance to communities.
Ambassador Ajisomo made the statement when he paid a courtesy call on Internal Affairs Minister, Morris Dukuly at his Capitol Hill Office.
During the meeting, the envoy assured the Minister of ECOWAS’ readiness to work closely with the Ministry towards advancing ECOWASintegration projects in Liberia and in the sub-region.
Speaking earlier, Internal Affairs Minister Morris Dukuly recounted the role of ECOWAS, especially in the days of the civil war, when countries deployed troops in Liberia.
Minister Dukuly welcomed the plan by ECOWAS, saying it will strengthen relationships at the borders as well as promote trade, sustainable development and security.
He said it was time to begin building peace infrastructure including trans-border trade and market in the MRU countries.
He told the ECOWAS Envoy that discussions are underway initiated by the Liberian government to introduce what he called, the ‘MRU Peacebuilding and Reconciliation Trust fund.
The Minister said the Trust fund will be supported by all members of the Union.
