National Road Fund Donates Logistics to Boost Community Road Maintenance and Job Creation in Liberia
The National Road Fund (NRF) has officially donated a fleet of 28 motorbikes, a pickup truck, and essential computer and printing equipment to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This initiative is set to strengthen local road monitoring and maintenance efforts across the country.
The donation will serve as a catalyst for the launch of the Community-Based Organization (CBO) Road Monitoring Program, designed to empower local communities in identifying and addressing issues on community and feeder roads swiftly and effectively. By engaging trained community members, the program aims to facilitate the reporting of road problems and enable them to carry out small repair tasks, such as clearing drainage systems and brushing roadsides. This proactive approach will help maintain roads in good condition, ensuring safer travel for all.
Minister of Internal Affairs F. Sakila Nyumalin, Sr,
emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “The support from the National Road Fund is a vital step toward enhancing our infrastructure and fostering community involvement in road maintenance. This program not only addresses immediate road issues but also empowers our youth by providing them with job opportunities.”
The CBO Road Monitoring Program is expected to create around 1,500 jobs for young people, providing them with meaningful employment while contributing to the improvement of Liberia’s infrastructure. By promoting community participation in development, the program aligns with the government’s vision of equitable service delivery across the nation.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs will spearhead the implementation of this program, collaborating with local leaders and organizations to ensure its success. Together, they will work towards building a more resilient and responsive road maintenance system that benefits all Liberians.
