
In preparation of the Decentralization process, Internal Affairs holds major traditional leaders forum
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced a major National consultation forum for about 185 Chiefs and traditional leaders to be held early July in Monrovia.
The week-long forum scheduled for July 5-11 will bring together senior traditional leaders including the National Traditional Council, paramount chiefs, Traditional Mothers and Tribal Governors from all 15 political sub-divisions of Liberia.
The forum, expected to be graced by international partners, is intended to brief the country’s traditional people on the significance and value of the National Decentralization program implementation led by the Internal Affairs Ministry.
The special forum is under theme: “What is meant by Governance Decentralization and what is expected of the Chiefs and Elders of the country”:
According to the statement, participants will be briefed by line ministries and agencies of their respective roles in the decentralization process.
The forum will witness presentation from the Ministers and heads of agencies including; Finance, Education, Health and Social Welfare, Justice, Gender, Agriculture and Information.
Others are; The Governance Commission, Land Commission, Civil Service Agency and the National Security Council.
Meanwhile Internal Affairs Minister Blamoh Nelson has called on the traditional leaders and chiefs to take the consultation seriously so as to get an appreciation of the decentralized governance process and adequately educate their people.
