Russian Envoy visits Internal Affairs Minister

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation accredited to Liberia on Thursday paid a courtesy call on Internal Affairs Minister Blamoh Nelson at his Capitol Hill Office where the two discussed several bilateral issues.


Minister Nelson and Ambassador Vladimir Barbin discussed issues of investment, peace, reconciliation, education, democracy and possible areas of Russia’s intervention in the country’s development drive.


During the meeting, the Internal Affairs Minister expressed delight for the Ambassador’s visit and lauded Russia for being helpful in the processes that led to the end of the country’s civil war.

 

According to a release, Min Nelson told Ambassador Barbin, that as part of the first 150 days, his Ministry was beginning with the creation of a national directory, profiling existing facilities which will clearly define areas for intervention, adding, it will enhance the decentralization process.


The Minister also called for specific intervention in Liberia’s education and investment sectors, saying, the huge capacity gap can be filled with help from international partners with provision of scholarships and training of youths in new technologies of construction.


Also speaking Ambassador Barbin called for investment friendly environment, where citizens will welcome investors, making reference to the Russian owned Putu Iron Ore operations in Grand Gedeh County.


On the issue of democracy, the Russian envoy praised Liberia for its second successive violent- free national election, which he said extended to local elections.
