
Tragedy at Tweh Farm, Family of five die in house-fire, as Internal Affairs Minister Dukuly expresses deep regrets.
The National Disaster Relief Commission, NDRC said it deeply regrets the sad incident of fire out-break in the Tweh Farm Community, Bushrod Island Wednesday night, May 28,2013, in which all five members the Kofa family perished.
While visiting the incident site, the Chairman of the NDRC, Internal Affairs Minister, Hon. Morris M. Dukulydescribed it as pathetic.
The Minister also extended heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members, the community and the state, on behalf of Her Excellency, the President, Madam Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and the Government of Liberia, for the loss.
Community dwellers identified the victims as one Madam Gboryonoh Koffa, a mother affectionately called OBJ, believed to be in her forties, her daughter Nancy, reportedly in her late twenties, along with her husband Maxwell, and two grandchildren including a 7year-old,all of whom were trapped in the house and died as all efforts to rescue failed.
Eyewitnesses said they woke up around 12:30AM to the loud cries of the family, but could not succeed in freeing them due to thick iron bars and doors that sealed the decent concrete building.
Meanwhile, Vice President Joseph Boakai, Justice Minister Christiana Tah and BIN Commissioner Abla Williams also visited the scene on Wednesday and expressed condolence.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are being conducted by the Homicide Division of the Liberia National Police.
