Voinjama City establishes sister-city relationship with Brooklyn Center

Voinjama City in Lofa County has established a sister-city relationship with the city of Brooklyn Center of the state of Minnesota, the United States of America.

 

The relationship is intended to foster relations, ties of friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding in the areas of culture, sciences, education, health, tourism and sport.

 

According to a press release from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the relationship was formalized on January 22, 2014 when a high level visiting Brooklyn Center delegation, headed by Mayor Tim Wilson paid a visited Voinjama City.

 

The sister-city relationship was initiated by Vice President, Ambassador Joseph Boakai during a visit to the US and encouraged by Internal Affairs Minister Morris Dukuly andPresident Ellen Johnson.

 

Under the MOU, the city of Brooklyn Center will benefit from a sister-city relationship by encouraging Liberians to greater participation for the welfare of the city by increasing engagement and volunteerism and enhancing community engagement endeavor.

 

Voinjama City will benefit from sister-city relationship by nurturing a municipal partnership that will help to creatively learn, work and solve problems together through reciprocal cultural, educational, business, leadership development, professional and technical training and projects especially as Voinjama continue the rebuilding efforts after years of  civil war.

 

According to the Memorandum, the cities shall encourage cooperation in areas of culture, arts and sciences through the exchange of delegations and experiences of exhibitions, festivals seminars, and conferences.

 

Voinjama City Mayor, Madam Younger Sherman signed for Voinjama City, while Mr. Tim Wilson, City Mayor of Brooklyn Center signed on behalf of his City.
