
Internal Affairs Ministry pleads with National Legislature to temporarily suspend creation of new sub-national structures
Tubmanburg, Bomi County-Internal Affairs Minister Morris Dukuly is calling for a halt to the establishment of new local government administrative structures in the country.
Minister Dukuly also wants the National Legislature who is charge with the responsibility to also abandoned creating these administrative structures.
He said increasing number of local structures without necessary economic, social, infrastructure and basic services creates a lot of problems for government.
The Internal Affairs Minister was speaking Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at the start a two day stakeholders’ consultation and sensitization forum on rationalizing local government administrative and traditional structures in Tubmanburg, Bomi County.
The forum organized the Ministry of Internal Affairs is intended to solicit views of heads of sub-national administrative structures on the campaign to rationalize local government administrative and traditional structures.
Sub-national administrative structures include Cities, Districts, Chiefdoms, Clans and General Town Chiefs.
According to statistics, more than 82.3% of resources (money) allocated to the sub-national structures are spent on personnel and related services; thus severely constraining outlay on goods, services and developmental projects in the counties.
