
Traditional leaders plead for empowerment in order to succeed in the Ebola fight
Participants attending a week long consultation meeting on Ebola awareness and prevention have called for empowerment for chiefs and other traditional leaders to enable them galvanize citizens against Ebola.
The traditional chiefs, some of whom claimed being part of various Task forces in counties said traditional leaders have not been given leadership opportunity and the requisite logistics.
Speaking separately, Paramount Chief Haji Sambai of Grand Cape Mount County said he needs support to carry out awareness in all five districts, four of which have been affected by Ebola in the County.
For his part, Sinoe county Paramount Chief Emmanuel Wesseh appealed to government and partners to empower him sensitize his people, many of whom have not been informed about the disease and its prevention.
Chief Kofi Zah, a Paramount Chief of Rivercess County indicated that it is time for traditional chiefs to help spread the message of Ebola and therefore requested government and its Partners to support the initiative of chiefs throughout Liberia by providing budgetary and logistical support.
“We want to join the fight because we want our development to continue, our schools to re-open”.
The traditional chiefs called for logistics and cash that would enable them reach out to the various communities.
